NEW DATE! KyHBPA College Day at Ellis Park Sunday August 10

Who can’t use $1,000, an iPad mini/airPod package or $150 Amazon gift card!

Kentucky HBPA College Day, in conjunction with Ellis Park, is staging its rescheduled College Day on Sunday, August 10. Details below:

  • Three drawings (one each for each prize) will be held before every race. Prizes are: $1,000 check made out to the winning full-time student (must fill out a W-9), iPad Mini/airPod package and $150 Amazon gift card.
  • Open to all full-time students enrolled this summer or for the fall term in an accredited post-high school program (2- and 4-year, vocational and technical, graduate or professional school, barber college etc.) Incoming freshmen are welcomed with proof of registration.
  • Students must register in person and must be present to win.
  •  Rules will be on the registration forms and the info below is subject to change. But basically the drawings are 15 minutes BEFORE a race. Registrants must have a cell phone or be with someone with a cell phone, as we’ll call the winners in addition to those names being announced and posted on the video board and on a white board by the registration area. Winners will have five minutes to get down to the registration desk to receive instructions (which is: Be down by the winner’s circle by the time the horses cross the wire for the upcoming race. After the winning horse and people clear the winner’s circle, the winning students will get their prize and we’ll do a presentation.)
  • If a drawing winner doesn’t answer their cell phone or show up in time, that drawing will be voided and another name drawn.
  • In the case of a redraw, determinations of winners are made by representatives of the Kentucky HBPA and are final.
  • Last race drawings are restricted to those working in the horse-racing industry or their children who are full-time students (Ellis Park and Churchill Downs Inc. employees and their families are not eligible, though employees of other thoroughbred tracks in the state and their children are eligible.) Winners of these drawings must sign up in person but need not be present to win as we understand they might have to work back at the barn!
  • The last-race industry scholarship has been doubled and is the $2,000 D. Wayne Lukas Memorial Industry Scholarship in honor of the transformative trainer who died on June 28.
  • Those signing up for the industry prizes must show a current Kentucky racing license or be able to establish their parent’s connection to the industry. Industry winners must sign up in person but do not have to be present to win (in acknowledgement that they might be working). Those in the industry drawings cannot participate in the general drawings.
  • Those eligible for the industry drawings include licensed racehorse owners, trainers, jockeys, exercise riders, stable employees, blacksmiths, veterinarians, vendors, etc. and their children.
  • It’s also KY HBPA Dollar Day. Discounted hotdogs and drinks!
