Turfway’s 1st Synthetic Championship Night by the numbers

FLORENCE, Ky. (Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024) – Turfway Park’s Synthetic Championship Night is set for Saturday, highlighted by four stakes races worth $1 million in combined purses. The evening features an outstanding lineup of North America’s top synthetic runners, Grade I winners and past stakes champions.

Synthetic Championship By The Numbers:

  • 53: Total horses entered across the four Synthetic Championship races.
  • 4: Horses entered with career earnings greater than $1 million – Stilleto Boy ($1.8 million), Howard Wolowitz($1.2 million), Manny Wah ($1 million) and One Timer ($1 million).
  • 3: Grade I winners competing – Howard Wolowitz (Holiday Cheer), Exaulted (Prairie Bayou), and Stilleto Boy (Prairie Bayou).
  • 10: Wins by Dana’s Beauty, the most by any horse entered. She’s tabbed as the 2-1 favorite in the $250,000 My Charmer.
  • $344,535: The highest synthetic earnings among horses entered, held by Dana’s Beauty. Note: Patches O’Houlihan, entered in the Holiday Cheer, boasts higher synthetic earnings of $516,287 but is reportedly scratching from the race.
  • 2: Consecutive wins in the Holiday Cheer for trainer Bill Morey, who seeks a third with Shefflin, entered on the also-eligible list.
  • 16: Years since trainer Mike Maker earned his first Prairie Bayou Stakes victory with Canela. Maker also won the race three years ago with Cross Border. He has Paros entered in this year’s edition
