LOUISIANA DERBY QUOTES

  • Cherie DeVaux (trainer, Golden Tempo) – “He made a really nice run in the Risen Star and just gave himself a lot to do. We’re putting blinkers on him not to change his running style but hopefully to get him in a better position so he doesn’t have to make up so much ground. He’s got a really nice turn of foot but I really just want to get him focused.”
  • Brad Cox (trainer, Autobahn and Easterly) – “(Easterly) won professionally to break his maiden. We started him around one turn just to get going. I thought he ran a respectable race coming out of a good maiden. Then he was able to graduate last time around two turns doing what we thought he’d do – move forward around two turns. … (Autobahn) has always been a pretty good worker. We started him short and then stretched him out a little bit more and then he was able to put it all together going the mile and an eighth. I don’t know how strong the race was but I like the way he did it.”

JEFF RUBY STEAKS QUOTES

  • Michael McCarthy (trainer, Stark Contrast) – “He’s a good work horse and trains with a lot of energy. He seems to be going the right way. It’s a good time to take a swing at a big pot.”
  • Trace Messina (assistant trainer, Argos and Fulleffort) – “Fulleffort continues to improve this year. He ran two really good starts in the Leonatus and John Battaglia but got a little unlucky not to get the job done. We’re looking forward to seeing him continue to improve and run a top race on Saturday. … (Argos) is a new arrival to our barn. He’s done everything the right way since we got him at Turfway.”
